Frequently asked questions.

What is tofu skin (yuba), bean curd, and 腐竹?

They all refer to the same family of soy products — the thin film that forms on the surface of heated soy milk during traditional tofu production. The film is lifted off and folded into sheets, rolled into sticks, tied into knots, or dried for shelf-stable formats.

Tofu skin is the common English term. Yuba is the Japanese name, widely used in U.S. menus and specialty grocery. Bean curd is an older translation, common in Chinese-American grocery packaging. 腐竹 (fuzhu) specifically refers to the dried stick form in Mandarin. Soja Foods uses these terms interchangeably across product names.

What are 响铃卷 (Tofu Skin Roll) and 豆包 (Tofu Skin Pocket)?

响铃卷 (Tofu Skin Roll) is dried, pre-rolled tofu skin, ready to fry. Crisp shell with a layered chew inside. Also called bean curd roll or yuba roll. A Hangzhou-cuisine classic, works as a spring-roll-style format for restaurants, prepared-food programs, and crispy appetizer menus.

豆包 (Tofu Skin Pocket) is pre-folded yuba pouches, available in dried and refrigerated fresh formats, ready to stuff with rice, mushrooms, glass noodles, or other fillings. Also called bean curd pocket or yuba pocket. A staple format for hot pot, oden, and stuffed-pocket menu builds.

When will pilot samples and full production be available?

We’re currently sourcing non-GMO American soybeans through U.S. grain merchants and identity-preserved suppliers, and locking in production specs. First production runs — dried and refrigerated tofu skin formats — will go to early foodservice partners as limited pilot samples. Foodservice rollout to restaurant groups and distributors follows, then wider retail and direct channels.

Specific pilot timelines are confirmed case-by-case based on your channel and volume context. See the timeline above for the current production plan, or reach out via the inquiry form to discuss timing.

Do you offer private label or co-packing?

Yes — private-label and co-packing discussions are open across the lineup. We can talk through formulation, packaging artwork, and pack-size customization for retail grocery, foodservice, and distributor partners.

Tell us your concept in the inquiry form — target channel, volume range, and any private-label requirements — and a real person will follow up to scope it.

What allergens and certifications apply to your products?

All Soja Foods products contain soy and are made in a facility that processes soy. Final allergen and Nutrition Facts statements on product packaging will govern at launch. Tofu skin and most of our line are plant-based and suitable for vegan and vegetarian menus.

Our active claim is non-GMO, referring to the soybeans used as ingredients in these specific products — not a facility-wide designation. Third-party certifications (Non-GMO Project, kosher, organic, etc.) are not yet active; we’re evaluating channel-specific certifications for launch. Product packaging will control final claims.

Is Soja Foods accepting wholesale inquiries now?

Yes — we’re in pre-launch and actively accepting inquiries for pilot samples, foodservice partnerships, and private-label discussions. Final pack sizes, pricing windows, and pilot timelines are confirmed on a case-by-case basis. Reach out via the inquiry form below and a real person will follow up within 1–2 business days.
